Newest Airline Recycling Rankings

Responsibleshopper.org has recently released their figures to show which airlines are the most responsible with their recyclable waste and which ones are not.

To place the industry into perspective, it is estimated that US Airlines alone generates around 800 Million Pounds of waste per year, of which around 75 percent is made of recyclable materials, though only around 20 percent really is recycled.

The surveys figures showed that the best recycling airlines where Delta, Virgin America, Southwest and Virgin Atlantic, while United and US Airways need to get on to serious improvements.

It has been suggested that the airlines industry may possibly recycle nearly 500 Million pounds more of waste products each year and this may possibly be improved by initiating a comprehensive recycling program based around either minimizing or composting food waste and by providing better public information about their recycling programs, among other suggestions.
