Chances are great that you have had at least one headache in your lifetime. When it comes to painfulness, the prevalent, ordinary headache doesn’t even start to compare to migraine headaches. I had a period when much younger, and I used to have migraines approximately once a month. They lasted a couple of years and then suddenly stopped, and I am delighted for that. Headaches in general, including migraines, have not been solved by physicians since they do not have a full grasp on their reasons. There can be hundreds of factors, if not more, and one very puzzling element is the people have different pain sensations. But that is only one small part of a large and complex picture.

Even so, just like with many topics in medicine, a lot is known about migraine headaches. This kind of headache is sometimes known as a vascular headache. For one thing, there are many who may experience a migraine if they are subject to significant temperatures of either hot or cold. Deprivation of sleep or experiencing extremely hungry can bring one of these painful headaches to the forefront. Just like with so many other medical issues, there are certain triggers that seem to influence this condition. Another cause for a migraine can be excessive and chronic levels of stress.

Pertaining to the intense pain, migraines are distinct because the pain seems to take much longer to build up. That suggests certain ramifications to doctors but nothing particularly definitive. These clues just appear to be more pieces to the entire puzzle. Over fifty percent of people who get migraines seem to have relations who also have this trouble which implies a possible genetic influence. But since not every person is in that category, then that compels doctors to examine ourside causes.

For women, there may be a connection with hormone changes and migraines. In fact, cases of migraines have been reported during the times just before or after the menstrual cycle occurs. Estrogen does not stay stable at these periods for women. Pregnancy and afterward the menopausal years are also circumstances of wild variations in hormones. As you may be thinking, there can be some who have higher frequency of migraines at those times. There is an established procedure called hormone replacement therapy which can create more extreme migraines which is hard to imagine. Conversely, all of those experiences do not appear to all women who are afflicted by migraines.

There are many other factors involved that may trigger a migraine among them sensory stimulation such as loud noises, specific odors, bright lights and an array of smells like perfumes and other different odors. So there is no clear single cause that might be pinpointed with this affliction. Some people can get them from physical activities that are likely to be in excess of what that person normally gets. All of that helps make unraveling the mystery of migraines considerably more difficult.
